Architectural boundary work is judged at close range. Consistent lines, considered junctions and a well-integrated gate matter as much as the individual panel.

The project brief

The reference brief considers a contemporary property boundary that should screen direct views without feeling heavy or disconnected from the architecture. The entrance, long boundary runs and changes in ground level all need to read as one calm elevation.

Privacy is not treated as a simple on-or-off choice. Panel orientation, spacing, viewing angle, airflow and the relationship with planting are reviewed together so the selected system suits both the street side and the private side.

The XTZ response

XTZ develops a repeatable panel and post module, then adjusts it around corners, end conditions and the pedestrian gate. The gate leaf, latch side, threshold and adjacent infill are aligned with the fence so visual lines remain consistent when the entrance is closed.

Finish samples, panel direction and visible fixing preferences are confirmed before production drawings. Where airflow or partial transparency is required, the review can compare solid privacy panels with perforated or architectural mesh alternatives rather than forcing one material across every zone.

The planning result

The planning result is a coherent boundary concept with fewer unresolved details at installation. The buyer can see where the standard module is maintained, where special widths may be needed and how the gate is integrated into the overall elevation.

The configuration also gives the project team a clear basis for discussing privacy, ventilation, colour, hardware and maintenance before final quantities are approved.

Finish consistency

Colour, gloss level, touch-up expectations and exposure conditions should be agreed across panels, posts and hardware.
